Himachal & Uttarakhand Tour

Destinations : Delhi - Chandigarh - Dalhousie - Khajiar - Dharamshala - Manali - Shimla - Haridwar - Rishikesh - Nainital - Delhi

Day 01 : Delhi Arrival
Arrive Delhi and you will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. (Delhi has seen its rise and fall of many empires and each dynasty of kings has left behind monuments and memories to commemorate the grandeur of bygone days. Very few cities in the world offer such diversity in architectural styles as Delhi. The old city of Delhi today stands as an epitome of the whole history of Indo- Islamic architecture). After noon sightseeing tour of Delhi which includes Humayun's Tomb- built in 16th century and the precursor to the Taj Mahal. Drive past Safdarjang Tomb and visit Qutab Minar - a 72-meter high tower believed to be the most perfect tower of the Persian world. The iron pillar in the same complex has not rusted over 1500years. Drive pass Embassy area and see Rastrapati Bhawan- the Presidential Palace, India Gate and the Parliament House. Overnight.

Day 02 : Delhi - Chandigarh
Morning after breakfast depart for Chandigarh. Arrive Chandigarh in 4-5 hours drive and check into the hotel. Chandigarh nestles in picturesque setting in the foothills of Shivalik hills & enjoys the popular epithhet ' The City Beautiful ' Representative of modern architecture & town planning, the city is a creation of French architect, Le Corbusier - whose architectural rendering are appreciated all over the world. Chandigarh is one of the largest urban complexes of the post-war era, & is a successful experiment in 20th century urbanism. It is one of the great planned cities of India after Fatehpur Sikri & Jaipur which, in the context of their own times, represents highest achievement in Indian architecture.

The visitors can find many attractions throughout the year. Besides the architectural beauty that abounds in every corner of the city, the wide tree-lined avenues, rolling green scopes, clubs , shopping centres & numerous other places offer enchanting experience.

Afternoon visit Museum & Art Gallery, Rose Garden & The famous Rock Garden. Overnight.

Day 03 : Chandigarh - Dalhousie
Morning drive to Dalhousie. Arrive in the afternoon and check into the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight.

Day 04 : Dalhousie - Khajiar
Today local sight seeing of Dalhousie and also visit Khajiar. Overnight.

Day 05 : Dalhousie - Dharamshala (Mcleodganj)
Morning after breakfast leave for Dharamshala. Arrive Dhar in & check into the hotel. This is a hill station lying on the spur of the Dhauladhar range about 18kms. north east of Kangra town. Hill station is wooded with oak and conifer trees and snow capped mountains enfold three sides of the town while the valley stretches in front. The snow line is perhaps more easily accessible at Dharamshala than at any other hill resort and it is possible to trek to snow point after an early morning's start. Afternoon visit following places:

Mcleodganj : A number of residential buildings, restaurants, antique and curio shops, together with famous Tibetan institutions have lent importance to McLeod Ganj. The Budha temple is situated opposite to the present abode of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and is worth a visit. The Tibetan Institute of performing Arts(TIPA) is 1km. walk from McLeod Ganj and preserves a number of musical dance and theatrical traditions of Tibet. It holds an annual 10-day folk opera commencing on the second Saturday of April. There is also a Tibetan handicraft centre situated at McLeod Ganj and a Sunday market is organized at about 10 minutes walk from here.

Bhagsunag Falls : At a distance of 11kms. from Lower Dharamshala, Bhagsunag can be approached by road, here an old temple, a fresh water spring and restaurant are located. Further about 2kms. is beautiful Bhagsunag water falls which sooths one's eyes.

St. John's Church : The church of St. John's in the wilderness lies on a motorable road between McLeod Ganj and Forsythe Ganj 8kms. from Lower Dharamshala. It has a monument of Lord Elgin, one of the Viceroys of India, who died in Dharamshala and was buried here in 1863.

Dal Lake : The lake lies amidst hills and stately fir trees 11kms. from Lower Dharamshala connected by motorable road. It is the starting point of excursions and trekking and is located next to the Tibetan Children's village.

Day 06 : McleodGanj - Manali :
Morning after breakfast leave for Manali. Arrive Manali in 7-8 hours drive & check into the hotel. The landscape here is breath taking. One sees well-defined snow capped peaks, the Beas river with its clear water meanders through the town. On the other side are deodar and pine trees, tiny fields and fruit orchards. It is an excellent place for a holiday, a favorite resort for trekkers to Lahaul, Spiti, Kinnaur, Leh and Zanskar regions in Kashmir valley. It is known as the SWITZERLAND OF INDIA. Evening visit mall. Overnight.

Day 07 : Manali
Today visit following places:

Hadimba Temple : Manali has many attractions but the chief centre of interest, historically and archeologically, is undoubtedly the DHOONGRI TEMPLE dedicated to goddess Hadimba, the Bhim of Mahabharat fame. It has four-tiered Pagoda shaped roof and the doorway is carved with legendary figures and symbols. This temple located amidst wooden forest of deodar is about 2.5 kms. from the tourist office. It is a pleasant experience to stroll in the temple complex which was built in 1533 A.D. A large festival is held here in May.

Manu Temple : 3 kms. from the main bazar in old Manali lies the temple of MANU RISHI. It is believed that this is the only temple of Manu in India, who was the creator of human race on the earth.

Club House : 2 kms. from the town, club house has indoor games facilities which has been located on the left bank of Manalsu Nallah. There are some picnic spots near it.

Tibtan Monasteries : There are 3 newly constructed colorful monasteries, where visitors can buy carpets and other Tibetan handicrafts. Two are located in the town and one at Aleo on the left bank of Beas river.

Mountaineering Institute : Located 3 kms. on the left bank of river Beas towards Kulu. This Institute organises basic & advance training courses, in trekking, mountaineering, skiing and water sports. Skiing and trekking equipments can be hired from here by booking in advance. Tourists can visit an interesting showroom here.

Vashist hot Water Springs and Temple (3 Kms) : Vashist, a small village located on the left bank of river Beas towards Rohtang pass is worth a visit. It is renowned for its hot springs and temples. Nearby is the pyramidal stone temple dedicated to Vashist Muni. There is another Temple of Lord Ram here. Natural hot sulphur springs with two separate bathing tanks for gents and ladies are always full of tourists. Turkish style showers fitted baths have also been built nearby. Hot water from the nearby spring is provided for bathing.

Solang Valley : 13 kms is a splendid valley between Solang village and Beas Kund. Solang valley offers the view of glaciers and snow capped mountains and peaks. It has fine ski slopes. The Mountaineering Institute has installed a ski lift for training purpose. Located here is a hut and guest house of the Mountaineering and Allied sports Institute, Manali. Now a few hotels have also come up. The winter skiing festival is organised here. Training in skiing is imparted at this place.

Kothi : Situated on the road to Rohtang pass, a picturesque spot, Kothi is 12kms. from Manali. A PWD rest house is situated on a ridge overlooking a narrow valley with a very good view of mountains and valleys. Large number of films (movies) have been picturised at this place and is the ideal resting resorts of poets, writers and the lovers of peaceful environs.

Rohtang Pass (3979 m) : Rohtang pass is 51kms. from Manali on highway to Keylong/Leh. It offers a panorama and spectacular mountain view. The pass is open from June to October each year although trekkers can cross it earlier. It is a gateway to Lahaul Spiti, Pangi and Leh valley just as Zojila pass is a gatway to Ladakh. There are a beautiful sight of glaciers, peaks and Chandra river flows down in the Lahaul valley. Slightly to the left are the twin peaks of the Geypan. Overnight.

Day 08 : Manali -Naggar (1760 m) - Shimla
Morning drive to Shimla. Enroute visit Naggar. On the left bank of the Beas, Naggar is delightfully situated on a wooded slope and commands an extensive view. It was the capital of erstwhile Kulu state for about 1400 years. There are large number of famous temples notably Vishnu, Tripura Sundari & Lord Krishana. Cars and jeeps easily go upto the Naggar castle. Roerich art gallery which houses the paintings of Nicholas Roerich as well as his sculptures, is less than a km from the Castle. Naggar is also a base for undertaking treks to Chanderkhani Pass and to remote valley of Malana. Arrive Shimla in the afternoon and check into the hotel. In the evening visit Mall. Overnight.

The little village of Shymala, a retreat for British officers, soon grew to become the glamorous summer capital of the British, in India.

Shimla's salubrious climate, easy accessibility and numerous attractions have made it one of the most popular hill stations in northern India. The splendid views of the show-clad ranges of the Himalayas, fine walks through oak and flowering rhododendron, enchanting resorts within easy reach, golf Naldehra and skiing at Kufri and Narkanda make Shimala an attractive destination throughout the year. Visit Mall or relax at the hotel. The Mall: All visitors to Shimla inevitably walk down the Mall, the main promenade that runs along the top of the ridge-a busy shopping area with old colonial buildings, souvenir shops and restaurants. At the top end of the Mall is Scandal Point, a large open square with a view of the town-a favourite rendezvous for visitors and the local people. Overlooking it is the elegant Christ Church with its fine stained glass windows. The labyrinth of Shimla's bazaars spill over the edge of the Mall. Overnight.

Day 09 : Shimla
Today visit following places :

Viceregal lodge: Housed in the Gothic splendour of the Viceregal Lodge is the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, India's premier academy for higher research.

Himachal State Museum: Very close to the Institute, in a colonial building set in spacious lawns, is the museum. It has collections of Pahariminiatures, stone sculpture, local handicrafts, textiles and embroidery.

Jakhoo Hill: Hill, Shiml's highest point, is rewarding for there are superb views of the town and its surroundings. At the top is an old Hanuman temple.(2Km).

Annandale: Hill, Shiml's highest point, is rewarding for there are superb views of the town and its surroundings. At the top is an old Hanuman temple.(2Km).

Glen: A pretty picnic spot beyond Annandale is located in the thickly Wooded Glen , beside a sparkling stream.(4 Km).

Summer Hill: The quiett and lovely suburb of summer Hill has secluded, shady walks and charming views.
It was here that Gandhiji stayed on his visits to Shimla, in the elegant Georgian mansion that belonged to Rajkumari Amrit Kaur. Summer Hill is located on the Shimla - Kalka railway line.(5 Km).

Chadwick Falls: Just beyond Summer Hill is the 67 m waterfall, cascading into a deep gorge. The Falls are best seen after the monsoon.(7 Km).

Kufri (2,622 m): Kufri is a noted summer and winter resort with its glorious views of forested slopes and tall ranges iced in a covering of perpetual snow. A fine ski resort, Kufri has a winter season that extends from January to March. A sparkling winter sports festival is held each year in February. (16 km). Overnight

Day 10 : Shimla - Rishikesh
Morning drive to Rishikesh. Arrive Rishikesh in the afternoon and check into the hotel. In the evening visit Parmarth Ashram and many other asram for Puja. Overnight.

Day 11 : Rishikesh - Haridwar
Morning visit Laxman Julla & Geeta Bhawan. Later leave for Haridwar. Arrive holi city of Haridwar and check into the hotel. Later visit Har-Ki-Pauri, the sacred ghat was constructed by King Vikramaditya in the memory of his brother Bhartrihari. The golden reflection of floral diyas in the river Ganges is the most enchanting sight in the twilight during the Ganga aarti ceremony at the ghat. Also visit Mansa Devi Mandir and Asrams. In the evening participate in the Ganga Aarti. Overnight.

Day 12 : Rishikesh - Jim Corbett Park
Morning after breakfast depart for Jim Corbett national park, India's first and finest park spread over 520 sq. kms along the banks of the Ramganga river, just 300 kms. Northeast of Delhi in the foothills of the Himalayas is the Corbett National Park. Corbett is regarded as one of the true bird parks of the world. Out of the 2,060 species and subspecies of birds recorded in the Indian subcontinent, over 600 species/subspecies of birds have been recorded from Corbett at one time or another. This number is greater than the total number of bird species found in Europe and represents around one fourth of the available diversity found in India. Out of the 69 species of raptors found in India, 49 can be seen in Corbett making it a striking element of the local avifauna. The reserve, which covers 520 sq. kms. is not less than a paradise for bird-watchers. Arrive Jim Corbett and check into your camp or forest guest house. Afternoon enjoy Elephant ride for best and close game view. Chital, Sambar, and various other Deer species find refuge in the Savannah grasslands known as the Maidan, behind the campsite to the south, and Tigers are occasionally drawn in looking for prey. Two hour elephant rides, explore this sea of grass, rarely penetrating far into the deep jungles beyond; try to convince your Mahout or Elephant driver to venture in, as they can be quite magical. Come at dusk or dawn; in the heat of the day you probably won’t come across much more than deer among the tall grass. Tiger-sightings are few and far between, but you may be rewarded with fresh pug marks. Overnight.

Day 13 : Jim Corbett - Nainital
Early morning wildlife Jeep safari to see the wild animals. Later visit Corbett Museum & Garjia Temple. Arrive Nainital & check into the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Dinner & overnight at the hotel.

Day 14 : Snow Point & Lake Tour
In the morning after breakfast reach Snow Point by Cable car and enjoy beautiful Himalayan view from here. Return to the hotel for lunch. Afternoon visit Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal & Sat Tal. Dinner & overnight at the hotel.

Day 15 : Nainital - Delhi
In the morning after breakfast drive to Delhi. Lunch enroute. Arrive Delhi in the afternoon and on arrival terminate the tour.
